What You Need To Become A Real Estate Agent

As a fulfilling vocation, many people are searching for the right way to become a real estate agent. But like many jobs, there’s an education requirement. Although, some may have a hard time grasping what that entails. Discover what you need to do to get your license and education before you begin your first online real estate agent class with Bob Brooks School.

The Necessary Requirements and Education

Before you begin your first online real estate agent class, you have to fulfill a specific set of requirements. Thankfully, they’re relatively simple, and most people fulfill them seamlessly. To begin the process, you need to be a legal resident of the state and be 18 years or older. Once you fulfill those requirements, you can begin your journey to becoming the real estate agent you want to be.

But, of course, there are a few education requirements you need to complete before you can begin your job as an agent. To begin, you have to finish 60 hours of pre-licensing education as a Mississippi resident. And, we know that can feel like a big thing to dedicate yourself to, so we have free lessons available so you can take the course for a test run beforehand. Once you finish your education, you can then take and pass the licensing exam. The minimum passing score is 70%.

Congrats! You now have a license. From here, you can work with your broker and jump into your post-licensing education. This must be completed a year after you received your license, or else the license will expire. This education only really needs to be done once. Moving on from this, you then have to focus on your continuing education. The main focus of this is to keep you polished and up to date with any changing rules and laws in the real estate industry. Continuing education only needs to be completed every two years in the state of Mississippi.

These are all of the necessary requirements you need to fulfill in order to obtain a license and keep it valid. Stay up to date with your education and become a better real estate agent for both yourself and your clients.

The Difference Between a Real Estate Agent and a Realtor

While some people may use the terms “real estate agent” and “Realtor” interchangeably, this isn’t exactly correct. Let’s get into the specifics.

An agent is a professional who assists with buying and selling property. This person has a real estate license to do this job. To be a well-rounded and legal agent with an active license, you must complete your necessary education and maintain your continuing education on a regular basis.

On the other hand, a Realtor is a real estate agent who is an active member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). So while all Realtors are real estate agents, not all real estate agents are Realtors. But why would real estate agents want to become Realtors? Well, the NAR is not only a fantastic way to branch out and meet other hard-working professionals. It’s also a great way to show potential clients that you mean business. And, in turn, this influence can be used to obtain better legal protections and benefits for Realtors all over the country.

It’s up to you to decide if becoming a Realtor is the right choice for you and your career.
